Description:
The Millennium Cup 2000 was the first 128-dog stake held since 1887. It was staged over four days in a joint operation between the Newmarket & South of England Coursing Club and the Swaffham Coursing Club. The painting shows a course on rolled plough at Hilborough, Swaffham on the third day, 13 December 2000. This major coursing fixture was part of The Greyhound 2000 festival organised by a committee headed up by Sir Mark Prescott, Bt., to celebrate the Millennium by staging a number of greyhound-related events over a 5-day period. The programme included a greyhound show and parade at Tattersalls in Newmarket, greyhound racing at Mildenhall Stadium, an exhibition on the history of the greyhound and a 4-day coursing extravaganza which included stakes for greyhounds, whippets, salukis and deerhounds. Bob Burdon and Walter Dick were the Judges while Gary Kelly and Arron Atmore performed the slipping. Daylami won the event.
